If you’ve recently visited the team at Wonder West Orthodontics to have impressions of your teeth taken for custom-made Invisalign aligners, you will soon be on your way to a fabulous new smile.
These custom aligners are a great alternative to traditional braces because they can easily be removed when eating and drinking. It’s important to maintain excellent oral hygiene and care of your aligners to avoid a buildup of bacteria or potential discolouration of your Invisalign aligner.
Here are some tips to keeping your new Invisalign braces in excellent condition.
Caring for Your Invisalign Braces
Rinse
Rinsing your aligner after every meal is a quick and easy way to keep your aligner clean. Doing so regularly will ensure that saliva doesn’t build up, causing bacteria.
Soak
Soaking your retainer from time to time will help keep your Invisalign tray clean and sanitized. You can use denture cleaner or the Invisalign cleaning crystals for soaking.
Brush Your Teeth & Floss
Keep up with regular brushing and flossing, especially when re-inserting your Invisalign trays. Due to the form-fitting nature of these braces, food particles can become trapped in between your teeth causing dental issues down the road.
Clean
A non-scented and mild anti-bacterial soap is a great way to keep your Invisalign tray clean and sanitised. Be sure the soap is clear, coloured soaps may result in colour transfer to your Invisalign tray.
Brush
Using Invisalign-safe brushes, brush your aligners very gently. Be careful when doing so as rigorous brushing can cause scratches on your aligner. Also, avoid using traditional toothpaste while brushing your aligners as the whitening ingredients can often dull the aligner.
No Eating or Drinking
While you are wearing your aligners, avoid eating or drinking anything other than water. Foods and drinks can discolour your aligners and can also cause bacteria to form.
