Orthodontic Conditions & Concerns
Do you have a specific orthodontic concern? The team of professionals at Wonder West Orthodontics provides professional orthodontic care and treatment for a wide range of orthodontic disorders including:
Teeth Crowding
Proper orthodontic treatments can resolve the common problem of overcrowded teeth as seen below. In this case, the patient began treatment at 11 years of age and continued wearing braces for 26 months, resulting in a straighter and more confident smile.
Open Bite & Teeth Not Touching
An open bite can be caused by a number of reasons, in this case, however, the patient has been sucking their thumb from an early age. Treatment began at the age of 13 where she began wearing an orthodontic appliance referred to as a ‘crib’ which is designed to retrain the placement of the tongue. Today the patient has a more aligned and corrected bite.
Deep Overbite
A deep overbite can be identified when the lower front teeth bite into the palate. This can be corrected without the use of corrective jaw surgery if treated early. In this case, the adult patient was treated with braces and corrective jaw surgery within two years.
Missing Lateral Incisors
This patient was missing their lateral incisors due to congenital reasons. The patient was treated with braces for roughly twenty months where her teeth shifted into place. Bonded ‘Maryland’ bridges were used to replace the patients missing teeth.
Underbite
Underbites are quite common and can be identified when the lower front teeth sit in front of the upper teeth. In this case, the patient was experiencing some discomfort and excessive wear patterns on her teeth. Orthodontic treatment took place and now she has a more comfortable and confident smile.
Spaces Between Teeth
Orthodontic treatments and the use of braces can help to treat the spacing of teeth. For this patient, braces were used to close the spaces between teeth and provide him with his ideal smile. Secured, permanent retainers were also used to keep the spaces from opening up again.
Protruding Front Teeth or Overjet
Protruding teeth, sometimes referred to as ‘buck teeth’ can easily be treated with professional orthodontic treatments resulting in patients feeling more confident about their smile. For this patient, the overjet was corrected in two phases, correcting the jaw placement and aligning the patient’s teeth and bite.

Orthodontic Treatments Without Braces
Braces are not necessarily required to treat all orthodontic disorders. In this case, the patient was seen at an early age to treat crowding of the lower permanent teeth. A procedure was done to reduce the width of the patient’s baby teeth and permanent incisors began to align on their own over nine months.
Phase-One Orthodontic Treatment
Phase-one orthodontic treatment is used when a young patient may still have some of their baby teeth present. For this patient, the lower teeth were quite crowded and were touching the palate. Phase-one treatment was implemented using an expander and partial braces, improving the patients smile in 12 months.
